It’s roughly 1.5 hours’ drive from Anchorage to the closest saltwater fishing port. Traveling from Anchorage through Portage Valley and then via the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel to Whittier is the only way to get to Whittier.
The Maynard Mountain Tunnel is a 2.5-mile one-way rail route and road that runs through Maynard Mountain and into Whittier.
